DCK LAVINGTON ADULT CLASS SCHEDULE
Learn the ballet basics and improve your posture, balance and muscle tone. Enjoy the beautiful music and graceful movements that has made ballet an enduring art form.
Style & Fit
This class uses contemporary dance moves to elevate your cardiovascular system and engage your muscles to tone and strengthen you. Movements will incorporate afro funk, modern and contemporary movements. It will be a fun energetic session!
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.
Hatha Yoga Foundation
This class focuses on improving breathing, posture, and relaxation through asana (yoga poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), and savasana (relaxation). Regular participants will gradually stretch tight muscles and fascia, loosen stiff joints, increase muscle and joint strength, and learn to relax both body and mind.
Pre-Natal Hatha Yoga
Prenatal Hatha Yoga class focuses on helping women navigate pregnancy by easing tension in the lower back, reducing headaches, improving sleep, increasing flexibility and tone, working on breathing to manage delivery pain, accepting changes in the body, networking with other moms, and forming playgroups.
Discover the fun of modern dance while improving your flexibility, agility and muscle tone. Exercise the mind as well as the body while learning fun combinations to a variety of music genres.
Adult Yoga (Hatha)
Understand your body and safely establish your own yoga practice with hatha yoga. Stretch your body and gain deeper flexibility in your muscles as well as gain total body strength with positions that allow you to maximize on holding up your own weight. Most of all, breathe and relax your mind.
Zumba fitness is a fun filled latin based dance routine that enables you to burn calories with a variety of dance moves and stay fit. These include salsa, soca, tango, reggaeton, cumbia, belly dance, Quebradita and African. All you need to do is just dance, have fun and party yourself into shape!
A popular form of social dance that originated in New York City with strong influences from Latin America, particularly Puerto Rico, Cuba and Africa. Salsa is normally a lead & follow improvised partner or singles dance, although there are other recognized forms. Today Salsa is a very modern dance that is influenced by other up to date styles of dancing.
This is one of the most popular genres of dance originating from Angola. It is a partner social dance style. It describes both, a music style and a dance style. Kizomba is an Angolan word which means “party” in the Kimbundu language. Kizomba music emerged as a more modern music genre with a sensual touch mixed with African rhythm. It is characterized by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm.
Adult Afro Beat dance
A combination or traditional West African dance movement fused with modern funky rhythm. The dance is inspired by the music which originally is a combination of traditional Nigerian music, jazz, highlife, funk, and vocals, fused with percussion and vocal styles, popularized in Africa in the 1970s
Adult Dance Hall
This is characterized by authentic Jamaican steps originating in the Caribbean island of Kingston inspired by a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s.The Afro Beat & Dance Hall Weekly Wednesday Class is a fusion of the two styles
Adult Latin Dance Fitness
Latin Dance Fitness adapts traditional international partner dance styles to make them SOLO, so you can learn to dance WITHOUT THE NEED FOR A PARTNER! Dance styles include the cha cha, samba, rumba, jive, salsa, and tango. All of the routines are designed to be high energy and deliver a great overall workout that will tone and shape your whole body. Latin Dance Fitness is a perfect way to improve your stamina, flexibility, coordination and musicality.
Adult African Jazz
This is about awareness, movement, rhythm and dance. The class is a combination of mixed and fused movements and choreography based on different types of African dance from several countries in Africa such as Senegal, Congo and other forms in East and Western Africa. The choreography is based on Suki’s (the teacher) understanding of the science of African dance, subtle isolations, rhythmic emphasis and groundedness.
Barre is a complete body workout that fuses ballet-inspired moves with Yoga and Pilates, to create a unique fitness class. Barre classes are designed to work your entire body, increasing muscle tone and flexibility resulting in longer, leaner muscles and a stronger you. The class is strategically structured using interval training techniques to raise and lower your heart rate, resulting in rapid body conditioning and an increase in metabolic rate. The benefits of Barre are undeniable, but the best part is that every session is different and most importantly FUN!
Ashtanga yoga is a combination of Hatha and Raja yoga. In my sessions, I practice Asanas but also breathing exercises that strengthen one’s body and mind. In this class, there is some meditation as well as breathing exercises incorporated as well as the usual hatha practices and poses that may be more vigorous.
H.I.I.T – (High Intensity Interval Training) entails working out intensely in short intervals of time with timed rest. It’s quick, intense and sets your metabolism in action for the next couple of hours after the workout. Very good for fat loss and muscle development.
Songa fitness is a cardio session inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat dripping fun of dancing. Kundalini yoga is also called the “yoga of awareness.” The practice was brought to the West in 1969 by Yogi Bajan. The primary aim of Kundalini yoga is to awaken the kundalini energy or life energy, which lies coiled, serpent-like, at the base of the spine. In Kundalini yoga, practitioners use breathing exercises, physical postures, chanting and meditation to unlock this energy.
